Research Associates/Postdoc positions (Soil Chemistry) at the TU Darmstadt, Germany
The Group for Soil Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry of the Institute of Applied Geoscience at the TU Darmstadt, Germany, is inviting applications for two (2) Research Associates/Postdoc positions (all genders) starting as soon as possible. The positions are limited to 3 years with a possibility of extension of the contracts.
About the group
The Group for Soil Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry is a new research group at the Institute of Applied Geoscience at the TU Darmstadt. The group studies the biogeochemistry of soils under global change. We use advanced analytical approaches to understand soil pollution and matter fluxes between soils and atmosphere, biota, ground, and surface water. The current focus is on the fate of micro and nano plastic, including trace metals in soils.
We offer to work in a motivated, dynamic team with the possibility to bring in our ideas and support career development.
Who we are looking for
- The successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geoscience, Geography, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or similar disciplines. Experience in teaching, fieldwork, labwork, and instrumental analytics is required.
- Specific experience with microplastic/nano plastic research, trace metal research, nanoparticle research, relevant analytical instruments (e.g. FTIR/Raman spectroscopy, py-GCMS, ICP-MS, MC-ICP-MS, SEM/TEM, XAS), analytical method development, statistics, and programming is an asset.
Interestingly, successful candidates will teach in the field of Soil Science (4 h/week during the semester), (co)supervise BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. students, and conduct their research.
The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate. Also, an opportunity for further qualification (habilitation) is given.
