Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Material Science and Solid Mechanics is currently available at the University of Oklahoma in the United States.

Dr. Shuozhi Xu’s group in the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is looking for two fully funded Ph.D. students in the fields of Computational Materials Science and Solid Mechanics. The positions are available starting Spring 2023 or Fall 2023.

Qualification for the Fully Funded PhD Position

Self-motivated individuals who have research experience in one or more of the following areas are
encouraged to apply:

  1. First-principle Calculations (e.g., VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO)
  2. Atomistic Simulations (e.g., LAMMPS)
  3. Phase-field Modeling (e.g., COMSOL, MOOSE)
  4. Crystal Plasticity
  5. Finite Element Modeling (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS)
  6. Machine Learning

The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0. A student needs to take the GRE test either prior to admission or within the first year of his/her graduate study. There is no minimum GRE score requirement.

The AME School has two Ph.D. programs: Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

About Dr. Xu

Dr. Xu obtained a Ph.D. and an M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an M.S. from the China
Academy of Engineering Physics, and a B.S. from the Beihang University. He is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has authored and co-authored one book chapter and more than 70 journal articles (Google Scholar).

He received awards such as the Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award Silver Medal, Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Thesis Award, UC Santa Barbara Elings Prize Fellowship in Science, and Finalist of Rising Stars in Computational Materials Science. He will join OU as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in January 2023.
